July 16, 2020

Due to the recent pandemic, families across the country have been sheltering in place for a few months now, and it’s brought about some significant changes to their wishlists.

Back in the months of March, April, and May, many home buyers and sellers reacted to the pandemic’s impact by holding off on home purchases and sales. But now that parts of the country, like South Florida, are opening back up again, we have seen a HUGE influx of buyers who are ready to make moves again!

Now that home buyers have had the time to think about what they really need in a home, demand has picked up for homes with a few specific features. According to an Economic Flash Survey from the National Association of Realtors, these are the most sought-after features home buyers are looking for. Read on to find out what the 6 home buyer trends are for summer 2020!

And if you’ve been thinking of selling your home and you have any of these features, give us a call today! We’ve got buyers in the Jupiter, Palm Beach, and Martin County area at the ready looking for homes like YOURS!

1. Larger Family Spaces

Not much of a surprise, but after being stuck in close quarters for a few months, families with children are looking for more living spaces — big enough for everyone in the fam to have enough space! Whether it’s a bonus room that can be used as a den, a second living space, or a loft, home buyers are really looking for that extra space to accommodate being together much more often.

2. Home offices

This one is definitely a no-brainer, but home offices are more important than EVER! Since there has been an increase of employees working from home, it has become essential for people who don’t live alone to have a separate workspace in their home to allow them to work in peace and have a quiet space for conference calls and Zoom meetings.

3. Private Outdoor Spaces & Pools

Especially with the gorgeous tropical climate we have in the South Florida area, private outdoor spaces are the perfect places to spend a quarantine! During the stay-at-home orders, families across the country longed for an awesome outdoor space they could enjoy the fresh air and soak up the sun in without coming into contact with other people. Additionally, many community pools and neighborhood amenities have been closed and will continue to stay closed until after the pandemic subsides, so it is SO important for home buyers nowadays to have their own private oasis!

4. More Square Footage

Just like with the larger family spaces, home buyers today are looking to up-size their spaces to be more comfortable while every one is in the house. With college kids at home, children moving to distance learning, and parents working from home more than ever, the home is now the space where people live, work, play, AND relax. This means that they need the space for it all!

5. Security Systems & Smart technology

Spending more time at home means that homeowners want to ensure that their homes are safe and protected from intruders and this has led more home buyers to look for homes with security systems in place. Also, more home buyers are looking for homes equipped with smart home technologies to manage their security systems while staying efficient by monitoring their AC and lighting through their smart devices.

6. Upgraded Kitchens

With restaurants and fast food joints being closed all throughout the country, families have turned to cooking their own meals more than they ever have! For some, it’s become a family activity and for others, they have finally had extra time on their hands to pick up some cooking skills or to utilize the skills they already have. This has led homeowners to appreciate a large and upgraded kitchen with plenty of prep space, enough pantry and cabinet storage, plus a large sink, and upgraded appliances.
