My name is Ben Meller, this summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at Meyer Lucas Real Estate. As a junior at The University of Alabama and a South Florida native, I was eager to immerse myself in the dynamic world of real estate. I was really excited and determined to get this internship because I knew it would give me amazing experience and knowledge that I can carry with me for future opportunities.
From the moment I joined the Meyer Lucas team, I felt welcomed into what felt like a second family. Despite their busy schedules and the challenges of moving into a new office, Holly, Hallie, and Ariella always took the time to make me feel supported. Working alongside such respected leaders taught me the importance of time management, balancing work with social life, and navigating the demands of a 9-to-5 job. The sense of camaraderie and support from the team made every day rewarding and enjoyable.
My journey began with a determination to secure a summer associate position. I vividly recall persistently reaching out to land an interview, driven by the opportunity to engage in both business development and marketing—areas that I was passionate about. Despite the positions being filled, I wouldn’t take no for an answer and went through multiple Zoom interviews led by Hallie, who was the first person I talked to from the Meyer Lucas team. The role provided me with hands-on experience in both domains, confirming my interest in pursuing a career that combines these elements. Working closely with Ariella, I learned valuable marketing strategies, and her mentorship helped me grow creatively. Holly’s feedback on the vlogs I created was invaluable; she taught me what would grab a viewer's attention and how to create snappier, more fun, and engaging videos. Hallie's guidance throughout the internship ensured I stayed on track and productive, making the experience incredibly rewarding.
One of the most significant takeaways from my internship was discovering my career path. While I always knew I wanted to be involved in sales and marketing, I had not realized the potential of a role that merges both fields. On my first day, the professionalism and welcoming atmosphere at Meyer Lucas made me feel confident and excited about my future. The team's dedication to excellence and their willingness to share their expertise assured me that I was in the right place to grow and develop my career.
Throughout my internship, I gained first-hand experience in various aspects of real estate, including closing deals, hosting open houses, and understanding the nuances between buyer and seller listings with top of the line agents. This exposure helped me develop a sense of independence and the confidence to perform tasks efficiently and accurately.
A highlight of my internship was leading the Home Purchase Anniversary (HPA) project. This initiative involved routing and assembling anniversary gifts for our loyal clients—those who had purchased properties through Meyer Lucas agents. I had the opportunity to work with Copper, a leading CRM platform, and learned about the backend processes of real estate transactions.
The project required meticulous planning, including organizing routes across South Florida, from Broward County to Palm Beach, and all the way to Martin County, and assembling gifts efficiently. The process of hand-delivering these gifts across South Florida, alongside my co-worker Olivia, was incredibly rewarding. I also had the chance to create content for Meyer Lucas’s Instagram, documenting our delivery process and sharing our experiences. It was fulfilling to put faces to the names I had been processing in Copper, creating a full-circle moment in my internship.
Additionally, working closely with Jacob, an Operations Associate and former intern who now works here full-time after graduation, was instrumental in my growth. His guidance was invaluable in helping me navigate the expectations of an intern and providing solutions to the challenges I faced. Through his mentorship, I learned the importance of being quick on my feet, building connections, and understanding the value of a strong professional network.
Overall, my time at Meyer Lucas Real Estate was an enriching experience that solidified my career aspirations and equipped me with practical skills for the future. I am proud of the growth and dedication I have shown and feel confident that I have a bright future ahead in the real estate industry. My journey with Meyer Lucas is a testament to what can be achieved with persistence, passion, and the support of a fantastic team.
