Kathleen Horan: My Summer with Meyer Lucas Companies

How an Inspiring Internship in Jupiter, FL Shaped My Future in Luxury Real Estate
Kathleen Horan

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern with Meyer Lucas Companies. As a rising senior at the University of Tennessee, I applied to this internship because Real Estate is a field I truly see in my future. I was especially excited about the opportunity to move to South Florida for the summer and work under Holly Meyer Lucas who is a Tennessee Alumni herself! I also had the privilege of working alongside five other interns and associates who quickly became close friends, creating a collaborative and inspiring environment. Our day to day activities were assigned by none other than Hallie Rosenthal who I hold so much gratitude for making this summer so valuable. Each day at our headquarters, better known as The Mother Ship, was dynamic, enriching, and filled with opportunities for hands-on learning under the mentorship of Holly Meyer Lucas and Hallie Rosenthal.

We kicked off the summer attending Inman On Tour Miami at the New World Center, where we heard from top founders, CEOs, brokers, and developers across the South Florida real estate industry including our very own Holly Meyer Lucas. Holly has been a powerhouse to observe and learn from. From watching her speak on a panel at the Inman Tour about the importance of collaboration in luxury real estate to our personal conversations at the intern table, I have developed a strong sense of professionalism and empowerment as a female in this space.

Throughout the internship, I had the privilege of joining senior agents on listings, photoshoots, and broker’s opens. Furthermore, touring luxury homes, high-rise condos, and new developments like Alba Palm Beach, Nautilus 220, and Salerno Reserve offered invaluable insight into the real estate market and affirmed my career aspirations in the field. These experiences were paired with writing assignments for the Jup Scoop Blog and creating social media marketing content for our many platforms where we captured key features, amenities, and local lifestyle attractions for each property.

Continuing the pattern of real estate marketing experience, I was tasked with our Home Purchase Anniversary and Home Closing gifting from start to finish. Hallie taught me what sets a client gifting apart and why Meyer Lucas Real Estate is in a league of its own because of the little things like gifts that aren’t so little. It maintains a relationship with our clients from the second their home closes to long after they have settled into their new life in that home. These gifts were intentional and thoughtfully curated. I truly enjoyed and took pride in this task and made it my own throughout the summer.

A highlight of my summer was hosting podcast interviews during the PodPlus launch at The Mother Ship. I was honored to sit down with industry professionals including Kelley Herrmann of Landmark Title and Josh Ulmer of The Ulmer Team at Cross Country Mortgage as well as small business owners and other attendees. This became an ongoing project for the remainder of the summer as I edited the footage from these interviews into reels and promotional videos for these individuals that wanted to share their story.

This immersive experience has been instrumental in shaping my career path and equipping me with connections I’ll carry forward into my future in real estate and marketing. As this summer comes to a close, I am filled with gratitude for all of the people and opportunities that made this experience what it was. I am sad to say goodbye to the life I made here in Jupiter but I am entering my senior year with a newfound motivation and confidence that I know will lead me back here to continue my career post-graduation!
