Florida’s 2026 Tax-Free Summer Savings Guide

Looking for a fun-filled, savings-filled summer? Florida shoppers have a few major tax-free opportunities to keep on their radar this year, from hurricane prep essentials to back-to-school shopping and outdoor must-haves.

While some of Florida’s past sales tax holidays have changed, several popular items are now permanently exempt from sales tax, meaning you can save year-round instead of waiting for a short holiday window.

1. Year-Round Disaster Preparedness & Safety Exemptions

Good news for hurricane season: many disaster preparedness essentials are now tax-free all year long in Florida.

Tax-free items include:

  • Batteries: AA, AAA, C, D, 6-volt, and 9-volt
  • Carbon monoxide alarms
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Smoke detection devices
  • Ground anchor systems and tie-down kits
  • Insect repellent
  • Life jackets approved by the U.S. Coast Guard
  • Portable gas or diesel fuel cans, 5 gallons or less
  • Portable generators producing 10,000 running watts or less
  • Sunscreen
  • Waterproof tarps and sheeting, 1,000 square feet or less

This is especially helpful for Florida homeowners preparing for hurricane season, summer storms, beach days, boating, and everyday outdoor living.

2. Year-Round Florida State Park Admission Savings

Planning a summer park day? As of July 1, 2025, admission fees to Florida State Parks, including annual entrance passes, are exempt from sales tax.

That means you can enjoy Florida’s beaches, trails, springs, wildlife areas, and state parks with a little extra savings built in.

3. Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday: August 1–31, 2026

Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is now an annual, month-long event every August. For 2026, shoppers can expect the holiday to run from August 1 through August 31.

Tax-free back-to-school items include:

  • Clothing, footwear, wallets, bags, handbags, backpacks, fanny packs, and diaper bags selling for $100 or less per item
  • Certain school supplies selling for $50 or less per item
  • Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles selling for $30 or less
  • Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories selling for $1,500 or less, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use

A few exclusions apply, including jewelry, watches, umbrellas, briefcases, suitcases, garment bags, some recreational items, books that are not otherwise exempt, cell phones, video game consoles, and items sold in theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, or airports.

4. Outdoor & Summer Essentials to Watch

Florida’s 2024 Freedom Month Sales Tax Holiday is not currently listed as a repeating 2026 holiday. However, several outdoor and summer items that used to appear during temporary holidays are now tax-free year-round, including:

  • Sunscreen
  • Life jackets
  • Bicycle helmets
  • Insect repellent
  • Select batteries
  • Portable generators
  • Waterproof tarps

For boating, beach days, hurricane prep, and summer fun, these are the items worth grabbing anytime.
