Is West Palm Beach a Good Place to Live? (2026 Guide)

Downtown, the arts, the waterfront, jobs, getting around and the trade-offs, with 2026 home prices, from the Meyer Lucas Team.

Short answer: yes. West Palm Beach is the county's downtown, with Clematis Street, CityPlace, the Norton Museum of Art and the Kravis Center all within a few miles, plus Brightline trains and an international airport next door. About 127,000 people live here, and the city keeps adding jobs, from Wells Fargo's wealth management headquarters to ServiceNow's planned offices at CityPlace. The trade-offs: prices vary a lot block to block, condo buyers need to vet the building, and downtown traffic picks up in season. Here's the full picture for 2026.

West Palm Beach at a Glance

Downtown and the Arts

Downtown is the big draw. Clematis Street and CityPlace, which returned to its original name in 2024, keep the dining and nightlife going, and the West Palm Beach GreenMarket, named the No. 1 farmers market in the country by USA TODAY 10Best in 2026, runs Saturdays through May 22, 2027. The Norton Museum of Art anchors the arts scene and has a major expansion in the works, the Kravis Center brings Broadway tours and concerts, and the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens offer two acres of art and palms in the El Cid neighborhood. See our guide to the downtown lifestyle and the up-and-coming Nora District.

Life on the Water

Flagler Drive runs along the Intracoastal with a waterfront path that's busy with walkers, runners and cyclists. The city is rebuilding Currie Park with boat ramps, a fishing pier, tennis and pickleball courts and a café, and the beaches on Palm Beach and Singer Island are a short drive over the bridges.

Historic Neighborhoods

West Palm Beach has 17 local historic districts and more than 45 individually designated historic sites, according to the city's historic preservation office. Neighborhoods like Flamingo Park and El Cid are known for 1920s and 1930s homes on tree-lined streets close to downtown.

Jobs and the Business Scene

West Palm Beach is at the center of the county's finance boom. Wells Fargo announced in January 2026 that it is moving its Wealth & Investment Management headquarters to One Flagler, and ServiceNow plans to open offices at 10 CityPlace in 2028, with more than 850 jobs through 2030. Our Wall Street South guide covers the bigger picture.

Getting Around

The Brightline station on Evernia Street connects downtown to Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Orlando, and Tri-Rail runs south to Broward and Miami-Dade. The city's free RideWPB service runs seven days a week, and President Donald J. Trump International Airport, formerly Palm Beach International, sits just west of downtown.

Schools

West Palm Beach is served by the School District of Palm Beach County, which earned an A for the 2025–26 school year, and the district's choice and magnet programs draw students from across the county. Confirm the assigned schools for a specific address with the district before you buy.

The Trade-Offs

Prices and condo quality vary widely, so it pays to compare buildings and blocks carefully. Downtown gets busier from about January through March, and like all of coastal Florida, hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. For costs, see what homes cost in West Palm Beach.
