Is Jupiter, Florida a Good Place to Live? (2026 Guide)

Beaches, A-rated schools, spring training and what it costs: an honest look at living in Jupiter in 2026.

Short answer: yes. Jupiter, Florida pairs about 3.4 miles of public beach with A-rated public schools, a busy waterfront dining scene and an easy drive to West Palm Beach. It's a town of roughly 61,000 people where you'll run into your neighbors at the dog beach and the Saturday spring training game. The trade-offs are real too: homes cost more than the county average, insurance takes planning, and winter season brings traffic. Here's the full picture for 2026.

Jupiter at a Glance

The Beaches and the Outdoors

Life here leans outside. The town's beaches stay calmer and less crowded than the beaches farther south, and the Jupiter dog beach is one of the few places on this coast where your dog can run on the sand. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, built in 1860, anchors a 120-acre protected natural area right on the inlet.

Inland, Riverbend Park covers about 645 acres along the Loxahatchee River, with roughly 10 miles of trails plus canoe and kayak launches. The Jupiter Riverwalk connects waterfront restaurants and parks along the Intracoastal, and Jonathan Dickinson State Park is a short drive north. Boating is a way of life, which is why so many buyers start with our guide for boaters buying in Jupiter.

Schools

Jupiter's public schools are a big reason people move here. In the latest grades posted by the School District of Palm Beach County, Jupiter Community High, Jupiter Middle, Independence Middle, Jupiter Elementary, Limestone Creek Elementary, Jerry Thomas Elementary, Jupiter Farms Elementary and Beacon Cove Intermediate all earned an A. Jupiter High is also home to the Environmental Research and Field Studies Academy, a magnet program that has run since 1993. School zones can change, so always confirm the assigned schools for a specific address with the district.

The town also hosts higher education and research: Florida Atlantic University's Jupiter campus and its Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College share a campus with the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and The Herbert Wertheim UF Scripps Institute.

Things to Do

Every February and March, the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins hold spring training at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Abacoa, so major league baseball is a bike ride away for a lot of residents. Harbourside Place and the Love Street waterfront by the inlet keep the dining and live music going year-round, and our snowbird season guide covers the biggest events of the winter.

Getting Around

Jupiter sits at the northern edge of Palm Beach County with direct access to I-95, Florida's Turnpike and US-1. Downtown West Palm Beach is about 16 miles south, and the county's main airport, now named President Donald J. Trump International Airport (formerly Palm Beach International), is about 19 miles away by car. Miami is roughly 85 miles south.

Healthcare

Jupiter Medical Center, founded in 1979, is the town's hospital, and it's building a second hospital at The Health Park at Avenir in Palm Beach Gardens, scheduled to open in early 2028.

Weather and Hurricanes

Expect highs around 75 degrees in January and around 90 in July and August. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. Most newer homes are built to Florida's current wind codes, and impact windows, a newer roof and a generator are worth asking about when you buy, both for peace of mind and for insurance savings.

Cost of Living and the Trade-Offs

Jupiter costs more than most of Palm Beach County. The town's median sale price was about $715,000 in August 2026 across all home types, and single-family medians ran from $870,000 to $1.4 million depending on the ZIP code. Homeowners insurance averaged $6,323 a year with wind coverage in Palm Beach County in the state's July 2026 report, and season brings heavier traffic from about January through March.
